Me: I have toast now. Toasters don't toast toast, people toast toast
Jenny: But the toaster helps.
Me: It does, if I just stared at the bread, it wouldn't toast itself. But also, if I just held the toaster with no bread in it, the bread would still not be toasted.
Jenny: No, but that's not the action of toasting. That's just holdig a random object and staring at the rain.
Me: Yes it is, but either way, it takes me, a human, to lift the bread and put it in the toaster, and push a button, for bread to become toast.
Jenny: It is weird to me that this is blowing your mind.
Me: I'm using it as a metaphor for guns
Jenny: I know Steph. lol

Got a bit more done today!

Top Pic: Fourth bed totally planted up with (left to right) Red Ursa Kale, two types of beetroot (Bolthardy and Chiogglia) leeks (Neptune) and Bright Lights chard

Mid left: rocket and little gem lettuces planted out

Mid right: My cucumber seedlings planted out (the eggshells is to deter slugs and snails)

Bottom Left: the red onions starting to show themselves

Bottom right: My winter cabbages (January King) are doing well, but the summer ones which should be next to them (Derby Day) have yet to appear, I think I saw maybe one or two.

Also I had to re-sow the carrots and parsnips as I’m pretty sure the seed we had was too old so I bought new ones. I also sowed poppies and cornflowers in the patch where we dug up all the nettles, I’m hoping if they have some competition they won’t get so much of a hold again. And I put some nasturtiums in around the edges of the beds.

Now all I have left to do is plant out the peas next week, pot up the tomatoes and get them some supports, and weed!

So today has been a good day so far! Had my first driving lesson which I think went quite well, didn’t crash or kill anyone and my instructor was nice and seemed pleased with how I did. So I shall book another one :-)

Came home, managed to plant out the cucumber, rocket and little gems from the cold frame, and planted two rows of lettuce, one of “Rein Du Glace” or “ice queen” to you and me, and one row of special mixed ones. I’ll plant another row each of these in about 3 weeks to stagger the growing. I’m pretty sure the carrots and parsnips aren’t going to germinate, I think the seed was too old, so I’m off to town this afternoon and shall get new shiny seed to try again.

So it was 24c and brilliant blue skies and sunshine in Vaison this morning. I’m home now, it’s 9c and raining. Hello England.

On the plus side I am happy to be with my boy and my cat again, AND when I was in the car on the M1 I got a call (note: I was NOT driving, my sister was) from one of the places that interviewed me the other week and they offered me a job :) I shall be starting on June 10th which is very exciting.

And in other news, the cold-frame is overflowing with life and tiny plants so they will need to be planted out this week. Also the weeds have gone totally mad, so I’ll have to sort that out too.

I shall put up more photos of my beautiful holiday, but maybe tomorrow. For now I need tea, and dinner, and an early night.
